Background
A/Prof Hemal Mehta
Adjunct professor Hemal Mehta has over two decades of experience managing patients with macula diseases and performing cataract surgery. He is at the forefront of retinal research globally and is involved in clinical trials of the latest therapies for macula disease. Dr Mehta has published national guidelines on the management of cataract in patients with macula disease. He is a medical retina Section Editor for the journal ‘Eye’ and on the RANZCO Therapeutics Committee. He has served as principal or sub-investigator on over 50 retinal clinical trials. The clinical research during his previous fellowships at Sydney Eye Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital contributed to his higher research degree on ‘Novel endpoints in diabetic retinopathy clinical trials’ registered at Cambridge University. Dr Mehta is an Adjunct Professor at University of Notre Dame Australia working on the Sarks Archive to better understand age-related macular degeneration disease mechanisms.
